In the wake of state, national, and local protests against racism and police brutality, donations have flooded into national and Minnesota-based organizations, including Black Lives Matter, the ACLU, and the Minnesota Freedom Fund. Along with these initiatives, let’s talk about Texas-based organizations that you can support or get involved with right here at home.
1.San Antonio Area African American Community Fund
Part of the San Antonio Area Foundation, this fund works to promote philanthropy and to support nonprofits in San Antonio that serve African Americans. It has distributed more than $150,000 to charitable organizations and established $60,000 in loans to black-owned businesses since 2010.
2.Dallas Alliance Against Racist & Political Repression

3.African American Youth Harvest Foundation – Austin

4. Texas Organizing Project
Recommended by the National Bail Fund Network, a national 501(c)3 nonprofit, the Texas Organizing Project seeks to transform the state into one where working people of color have the power and representation they deserve. Donations to TOP’s Community Bail Out Fund will go toward posting bail for any protestors jailed because of the George Floyd protests in Bexar, Harris, and Dallas counties. organizetexas.org
5. Mothers Against Police Brutality
The Dallas-based Mothers Against Police Brutality seeks to redesign the system that protects trigger-happy police officers from ever facing murder charges. Founder Collette Flanagan’s son was killed by a Dallas police officer who was never punished for his actions. 6.Austin Area Urban League
This organization enables African Americans and other underserved urban residents to secure economic self-reliance, parity, power, and civil rights, and to provide tools for them to build a foundation for social and economic equality.
7.United Communities of San Antonio
Established in 1954, this organization aims to teach youth and adults to appreciate racial and cultural differences and to develop relationships, particularly with those who may be of a different background. The organization is involved in advocacy work and policy analysis, social justice initiatives and education, including diversity training for adults and programming for youth of all ages, among other programs. ucofsa.org
8.Next Generation Action Network
The Next Generation Action Network is a Dallas nonprofit organization of young leaders aiming to end social injustice through civil and community reform. 9.Austin Justice Coalition
Their mission is to educate and build community power for people of color who live in Austin that need support, community, and liberation during a time of systemic injustice in America. austinjustice.org
10. 100 Black Men of San Antonio
An organization and service club that started in New York in the 1960s, 100 Black Men focuses on mentorship for youth and college students. In San Antonio, the group also hosts a basketball league. 100blackmenofsanantonio.org
11. The House of Rebirth
A North Texas-based nonprofit organization, The House of Rebirth supports black trans women by providing resources for counseling, housing, and medical needs. Among THOR’s ultimate goals is to lengthen the lives of African American trans women who are at a disproportionate risk of being murdered, especially in Texas. houseofrebirth.org

With the knowledge that only 1% of Texas state park participants identify as Black/African-American, Black Outside, Inc was founded with the mission of expanded access, programming, and relevancy to both Black and Brown communities across Texas.
