**If your 501 (c)(3) nonprofit wants to start applying for grants, the first step is to evaluate whether your organization is “grant ready.” Being grant ready means that you have the experience and resources required to submit competitive grant applications. A grant ready nonprofit should have the following three characteristics: A Track Record of Success. You can show through data or client narratives that the services you provide are successful. A Clearly Defined Mission. You can clearly articulate your mission, who you are serving, the need you are addressing, and how you meet this need. Strong Leadership You have an invested, knowledgeable board of directors and qualified, experienced individuals in leadership positions.
