A Realistic Timeline

A Realistic Timeline for Grant Proposals

“My organization needs immediate funding, so we’re applying for a grant!” I’ve heard this phrase uttered many times by professionals in the nonprofit field. Unfortunately, grant funding cannot be procured overnight. So, what timeline can your organization expect when applying for grant funding?

Researching Opportunities

2-4 weeks. It takes time and energy to find funders whose missions align with yours.

Preparing the Proposal

1-3 months. Depending on the type of grant, writing a proposal can take a few days to multiple months. Allot at least a week for editing.

Receiving a Decision

3-6 months. The funder may have hundreds of proposals to review before deciding and informing applicants of their decision.

Award Payment

1 month. Sometimes, a check is not received for up to a month after notification of a positive decision.

In total, the average timeline for receiving grant funding is 5 to 11 months. That may sound intimidating, but Ascend NBS can assure that you plan accordingly and hit every deadline along the way.
